Revolutionizing Lighting: The Capsule Lamp by Natalia Komarova

Unveiling the Aesthetic and Functional Brilliance of the Capsule Lamp

Delving into the design and inspiration behind the Capsule Lamp, an innovative lighting solution by Natalia Komarova that marries form, function, and aesthetics. This award-winning design, inspired by the ubiquitous capsule shape, brings a unique touch to any space.

The Capsule Lamp, a brainchild of Natalia Komarova, is a testament to the power of design in transforming everyday objects. Inspired by the widespread capsule shape seen in medicines, architectural structures, spaceships, thermoses, and even time capsules, this lighting solution aims to recreate the soothing, rounded form that has a beneficial effect on the human psyche.

What sets the Capsule Lamp apart is its versatility and adaptability. Available in two types - standard and elongated - the lamp can be customized to suit individual requirements and interior designs. The lamps come in several colors with varying degrees of transparency, allowing users to create the desired lighting effect. The use of nylon ropes adds a handmade touch, enhancing the lamp's aesthetic appeal.

The Capsule Lamp employs different types of glass for the lampshade, depending on the model. The light transmission varies from completely transparent to almost opaque, providing a range of lighting options. The lamp is easy to transport and disassemble, thanks to its simple shape and components. The plafond, consisting of two parts, houses the light source and its mount in the upper half, while the lower half is screwed to the upper one on the thread.

The design of the Capsule Lamp, developed in March 2019, was driven by the need to bring harmony and comfort to spaces dominated by rectangular and cubic shapes. The rounded shape of the lamp, combined with a wide range of colors and sizes, aims to introduce a sense of balance and positivity. The addition of a handmade effect through nylon threads further enhances its uniqueness.

Creating the Capsule Lamp was not without its challenges. The design team, including Nikita Nekhoroshev, aimed to create an inexpensive, easy-to-manufacture lamp with interesting lighting. The universal form of the lamp was designed to facilitate mass production, making it a cost-effective solution. The team devoted considerable time to choosing the optimal color for the shell and determining the degree of transparency of the glass for specific models. Despite these challenges, the Capsule Lamp emerged as a unique interior item.

The Capsule Lamp's innovative design and aesthetic appeal earned it the Silver A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The Capsule Lamp, with its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, truly embodies these qualities.
